Join us on our group trip to England and visit castles and prisons, cathedrals and towers, museums and parks, and more! Our base is in London, but we’ll also explore Stonehenge, Salisbury, the Cotswolds, and Oxford!
When: May 8-May 18, 2019 (includes travel dates)
Where: London (and more!)
Registration Deadline: This trip is full. Please read my FAQs to find out how to get on the waiting list.
We’ll visit many sites in London, including the *Tower of London, *Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, Churchill War Rooms, and more! We’ll ride the London Eye and choose from many museums such as Natural History, Victoria & Albert, Science, British Museum, National Gallery, and others. We’ll also venture outside of London to explore Salisbury, the Cotswolds, Oxford, and *Stonehenge!
*These are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Our itinerary may change due to unforeseen events, but this is what we’re planning, plus more sites as details are finalized.
If you’ve traveled with me before, this trip is more similar to my New York, Washington DC, and Boston trips than my other international trips. We’ll stay in one hotel instead of having to pack and unpack, and use a variety of transportation methods to get around – the tube (underground, subway, metro), river, trains, buses, and our feet!
Some tours will be guided, some will have audio guides, and others will be self-guided. All will be fun!
We’ll rely a lot on public transportation while touring London, so plan to bring along your patience if there are delays. Also, London’s tube system doesn’t seem to be wheelchair- or scooter-friendly, so I don’t recommend this trip for anyone with mobility issues, or for those who can’t walk for extended periods during the day.
Even if you’re fit, start a walking program before we leave if you don’t ordinarily do much walking. Be sure to walk in the (comfortable) shoes you’ll be using for the trip – don’t buy new shoes without breaking them in thoroughly. Trust me on this.
Due to the amount of walking and logistics required for this trip, I’m limiting it to ages 8 and up.
Our hotel will have two double beds and will sleep up to two adults and two children. If you have more than that, you’ll have to get an additional room. If you have more than two adults in your room, there will be an additional cost to the prices listed below.
Price and What’s Included
Prices are estimates. Some sites haven’t finalized prices for 2019, and since the exchange rate fluctuates, I won’t be able to give final pricing until later this year. Your final price may be higher or lower. I don’t expect it to be higher unless there’s a big change in the exchange rate. (The sooner I can pay for things, the more accurate my pricing will be.) I tried to estimate high to avoid last-minute surprises.
Your final price includes a registration fee, hotel for nine nights, breakfast each morning from May 10-18, all sites and tours scheduled on our itinerary, and bus/train transportation for our day trips from London.
Your final price doesn’t include airfare, airport transfers, tube/underground transportation while touring the city, all other meals, anything you do on your own, and trip insurance.
Estimated prices are per family, not per person:
Family of 2: $5,500
Family of 3: $6,500
Family of 4: $7,500
If you have more in your family, combine prices above. For example, if you have a family of 6, combine the cost for two families of 3.
Payment, Cancellation, and Refund Policy
$1,000 per person is due within 7 days of my email confirmation of your spots. The final balance is due by October 15.
Please read carefully: Due to strict contract requirements and deadlines, payments are refundable only if I have a family on my waiting list to replace yours on or before November 15, 2018 and a $500 per-person cancellation fee will be deducted from all refunds. I can’t make any roster changes or give refunds after November 15, 2018. Your spots are not transferable to others outside of my waiting list.
Please make sure you understand this before you register and make your deposit and payments. Your signed registration form, waiver, and payment acknowledges your understanding and agreement with my cancellation and refund policy for this trip.
This trip won’t be confirmed until we reach our minimum. If we don’t meet our minimum, you’ll get a full refund of payments made to me. Please wait to purchase non-refundable airfare until I confirm the trip. I have no control over airline refund policies.
I accept checks, bank checks, and bank transfers using the Zelle transfer method (check to see if your bank participates). I don’t accept PayPal or credit card payments for this trip.
Travel insurance that covers your expenses if you cancel the trip is recommended. Thoroughly research policies to make sure of the reasons you can cancel, and that it covers emergencies and any unforeseen circumstances such as sickness, death of a loved one, and acts of God (natural disasters, etc.).
You must list any special needs (food, physical, mental, etc.) on your registration form. I’ll check to see if your needs can be accommodated before you mail payment. (No money will be refunded, and no special accommodations can be made due to allergies or other special needs if you don’t tell me about them when you register.)
